You can deposit cheques at specific NAB ATMS, up to 50 per transaction and each cheque can be up to $5000. Enter a name for each deposit at the ATM and review the total before finalising. Cheques generally clear in three working days. Cash deposits to a no-envelope ATM might be available immediately or within one business day. Check deposits typically post on the same day you deposit, but your bank might only make the first $200 of your check available within one or two business days. The remaining amount should be available for use after a few business days.

Paper deposit slips will soon be a relic of the past across all NAB branches.

NAB customers will be spared the tedious effort of having to fill out paper deposit slips for over-the-counter transactions from tomorrow.

Executive General Manager of Retail, Bob Melrose, said paper deposit slips would be removed from NAB’s branches from Saturday 11 February 2017, with withdrawal slips to follow in March.

“We know our customers want banking to be quick and simple, which isn’t always the case when you have to muck around filling out forms,” Mr Melrose said.

“This move means we’ll be collectively saving our customers from completing paper slips more than six million times each year.

Customers will instead receive a printed receipt which itemises the details of their transaction. Deposit slips will still be available for some transactions such as passbook accounts and bankers will assist anyone who has questions about what this means for them.

“We’re not the first bank to take this step by any means, but we’re committed to making it easier for our customers to do their everyday banking with us.

“We have a dedicated team to identify and fix what frustrates customers the most. We know from feedback that paper deposit slips were a sticking point for many of our customers, and that’s why we are making this change.

“It also brings us in step with the more than 90 per cent of customer transactions which take place digitally,” Mr Melrose said.

  • Jordan Gibbons, NAB Head of ATMs and Interchange said the seven year deal, which commenced in March last year, will see NAB overhaul its existing network of 1600 ATMs converting its legacy operating system from OS/2 ATM to Windows XP.
The seven year deal will also see NCR provide helpdesk services, support and maintenance of ATMs, monitoring of the ATM network and overall coordination of third party services for ATMs, Gibbons said.
“The major benefit of this contract is that we [NAB] will now be providing our customers with a much more reliable and functionally-rich ATM network. It’s enabling us to see the ATM channel being more than a place where people get cash from,” he said.
NAB’s ATM upgrade, which is expected to be completed in September, will also introduce for the first time in Australia a fleet of NCR SelfServ ATMs that Gibbons said will improve ATM uptime and offer advanced functionality for customers.

Some of the new functionality will include the ability for customers to participate in Intelligent Depositing – a feature of the NCR SelfServ ATMs which let customers immediately process cheques and cash deposited at ATMs.
The usual practice of depositing cash or cheques via ATM usually involves a lengthy process delay, but Gibbons said the new machines will eradicate this wait.

Nab“The trust factor which is lacking with an envelope deposit is also overcome,” he said.
The new ATMs will also feature self-healing capabilities that allow the machines to reboot automatically if a power outage occurs or notify staff if restocking of receipts is needed.
“The biggest benefit of these ATMs, from a consumer point of view, is availability. The self healing capability increases the availability of our ATMs so any minor incident which might otherwise cause the ATM to be unavailable, can be restored very quickly now.”

Although only fifty of the SelfServ ATMs will initially be deployed at NAB capital city branches, Gibbons said there were plans to introduce more when current ATMs reached their end of life.
